Indigenous Students

WEMADEIT is committed to creating safe communities for underrepresentation populations in the world of engineering! There should be no barriers in pursuing your passions, so we’re highlighting some important people, events, and resources!

Highlights

Western University

HIGHLIGHT: Western Engineering Outreach ran the third annual Indigenous Leaders in Training program at Western’s beautiful Wampum Learning Lodge. Indigenous high school students participated in two days of Engineering facility tours, hands-on STEM activities, and meaningful mentorship opportunities.

University of Waterloo

HIGHLIGHT: Waterloo Engineering Outreach was proud to participate in the Technical Youth Career Outreach Project STEM Summit in October 2025 alongside their University’s Office of Indigenous Relations, an inspiring national gathering that empowered Indigenous high school students through science, technology, engineering, and math. Their booth activity ‘Watts in the Wind’ taught principles of engineering design and energy generation, helping 35 students to explore future pathways in STEM.

Ontario Tech University

HIGHLIGHT: Ontario Tech University’s Engineering Outreach Indigenous Youth Team just finished their second annual Land Camp. Students got to partake in multiple land-based learning activities such as beading, traditional food cooking lessons, in addition to a deer hide tanning workshop!

Toronto Metropolitan University

HIGHLIGHT: Toronto Metropolitan’s Indigenous Engineering Outreach team was represented at TMU’s annual celebration of science! This event allowed us to engage with many families and learn about  birch bark canoes. Families with our team to build the canoes and learn more about Indigenous Ways of Knowing in engineering.
