Indigenous Students

WEMADEIT is committed to creating safe communities for underrepresentation populations in the world of engineering! There should be no barriers in pursuing your passions, so we’re highlighting some important people, events, and resources!

Highlights

Western University

HIGHLIGHT: For the first time, Western Engineering Outreach ran an Indigenous Leaders in Training program at the beautiful Wampum Learning Lodge. Indigenous high school students participated in leadership training, STEM activities, and mentorship opportunities.

University of Waterloo

HIGHLIGHT: Over the months of July and August, Waterloo Engineering Outreach travelled to Indigenous communities across Ontario to deliver free, hands-on STEM activities in multi-day camps alongside community partners. Over the course of the summer, the Travelling STEM team visited nine different First Nations communities reaching over 150 Indigenous youth.

Ontario Tech University

HIGHLIGHT: Ontario Tech University’s Engineering Outreach Indigenous Youth Team just finished their second annual Land Camp. Students got to partake in multiple land-based learning activities such as beading, traditional food cooking lessons, in addition to a deer hide tanning workshop!
